National Apprenticeship Week 2017 – Harry

From Monday 6th to Friday 10th March 2017, it’s going to be National Apprenticeship Week throughout the UK, and here at One2create we’ve been joining in.

Our creative team is made up of exceptional individuals, and throughout this week we’ll be releasing a series of posts written by each of our apprentices.

This time it’s the turn of another of our Creative Apprentices Harry. He joined One2create in May 2016, and has been working on client projects since day one.

  1. Why did you choose an apprenticeship over a University course?

I chose an apprenticeship, as I wanted to leave college and go straight into the world of work, as that seemed sensible, as most companies will not hire you if you haven’t got any experience.

  1. What made you choose your apprenticeship?

I chose my apprenticeship, as while I was at school/college and I thought about what I enjoyed learning about which was marketing and photography. So I figured that a creative apprenticeship at a web design and digital marketing company seemed like a sensible choice.

  1. What’s it like working at One2create?

Working at One2create is great, everyone is friendly and happy to help you if you are struggling with a certain task. Also, the atmosphere is great.

  1. How do you think your apprenticeship is going to help your career in the future?

It gives me that experience that companies look for when hiring.

  1. What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship at One2create?

I enjoy the fact that I am earning money while learning new things most days.

  1. What are the main skills that you’ve learnt since your apprenticeship started?

I have learned how to use multiple CMS programs, and various creative programmes like Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and After Effects. I’ve started to create animations with the rest of the apprentices, which has been fun.

  1. What advice would you give someone that’s thinking about taking on an apprenticeship role?

Be prepared to maybe not earn as much as your friends who work in retail for example but always remember that your are developing your career.

That’s the second post in our series so far but don’t worry, there’s still two more to come. The next posts will share the experiences of our SEO apprentice Rayan, and our (recently promoted) content marketing apprentice Marianne.

Another of our creative apprentices Beccy has already shared her own thoughts on her time at One2create. You can have a read of her article here.

Are you an apprentice at the moment? Or are you considering making the move into paid learning? We’d love to hear your own thoughts and experience, so let us know in the comments below.
