All you need to know about Snapchat’s latest update

Chat 2.0

Snapchat’s new update is aiming to be, ‘the best way to communicate – second only to hanging out face-to-face’. There have been a multitude of changes to the app, without changing its ease of use. So, where to start?

Chat has seen the biggest changes. You are now able to video or audio call someone, even if they’re not using the app.

You can also leave them a voice message or record a 10 second GIF-style video message to let them know what they missed or how you feel. These features are available to use in chat on their own or as a way to start a conversation.

Instead of an intimidating pulsing button letting you know your friend is using the app, a smiley face will now appear letting you know when your friend is there – much nicer!

If you’re on an audio call and you’re telling your friend about something amazing you’ve seen, you can now send them the image while still on a call, as accessing photos in your camera roll is now available while on chat.

Adding to this, you can also send batches of photos or videos from your camera roll through chat, which is a welcome feature in our opinion.

Video chats can now work like a live stream, where you could be on a video chat and your friends can either join with video or audio, or choose to watch and use text to chat.

Similar to Facebook, Snapchat now has over 200 stickers free to use including a walrus, the Snapchat ghost or our favourite, a little sloth! You also have the ability to search through these stickers by keyword.

Stories

The major change in stories is the way you view them. All you need to do is tap once and sit back as the next stories play automatically for you, no need to exit and tap the next one. If you want to skip to the next story, swipe left, to exit swipe down. Simples!

After all that, the other thing people have been noticing is a new emoji that appears next to your chats (like hearts or a smiley face), an hourglass emoji. This appears when you’ve had a snapstreak but it’s coming to an end soon. You get a snapstreak when you and a friend have been sending images to each other for several days in a row.

Hopefully that’s given you everything you need to know to start enjoying all the new additions to Snapchat, now you’re all set to get calling, videoing and snapping!
